Ok, so I have no idea why, but I am now sucked into watching Ultimate Fighting! Does anyone else watch this shit or am I completely retarded?

Ultimate fighting has been around for years. I first started watching it in 1994. Joyce Gracie was the champion for like 4 times in a row. I just enjoy watching someone get the shit beat out of them. Since the nineties they have gotten somewhat better at the sport and the matchups are a little more close. back then a good fighter would really fuck up another one that wasn't matched up as well. And a lot less tap-out moves...

I was a big fan of UFC back in the beginning. I haven't watched too much since they introduced weight classes and rounds. The lesson I learned is that every fight ends up grappling. You can be the best boxer/martial artist in the world, but if you can't grapple, and the person your fighting can, you are going to get your ass kicked. Have they introduced female fighters yet? That can't be far behind.

Yea, the grappling/judjitsu(sp?) is definitely becoming the toughest style to defend against. But I have seen some matches where I guy tries to go in a grapple and ends up getting is head knocked off in the process. At the same time, I've seen matches that were "grappling matches" on the ground but they are still punching the shit out of each other. I just think UFC is way more interesting than boxing, and it's cool to see how people use their own distinct styles of fighting. Kinda like real-life Tekken or something.

One of my Taekwondo instructors is really into UFC, and sometimes he'll teach us a grappling move he learned from watching UFC, with a very overly graphic description of the fight he saw it on.

Self defense lesson 1: Take it to the floor!
Self defense lesson 2: Eyes, throat, groin!
Self defense lesson 3: If you don't know how to put someone in a sleeper hold and the other guy does, you're going to LOSE.

i used to watch royce gracie win all the time. he was 6'1", 180#. not much bigger than me.

personally i like boxing more.

i think it is fun to watch but once somebody becomes a bloody pulp i have to look away.
