out governor just got arrested: http://www.wrex.com/Global/story.asp?S=9489834
our former governor is in jail, as well. ahhhh, illinois politics....
Wow, putting an appointment for Obama's senate seat up for sale! Damn!
He's been under intense investigation for years regarding corruption. Patrick Fitzgerald, the bad-ass Chicago/Illinois corruption busting government attorney, has been on the case. He's been a hairs-width from getting busted for shady dealings most of his term. The media, people of Illinois, and even the rest of the Chicago Democratic establishment hate him. His approval rating is 13%.
What the hell did he think he was doing? How did he think he'd get away with this? Wake up, Blago, you've finally pushed it too far. Maybe him and former IL governor Ryan can swap stories in the pen.

NEWS ALERT
from The Wall Street Journal
Dec. 9, 2008
Illinois Gov. Rod Blagojevich was arrested Tuesday on charges of conspiring to get financial benefits through his authority to appoint a U.S. senator to fill the vacancy left by Barack Obama's election as president.
A 76-page FBI affidavit said the 51-year-old Democratic governor was intercepted on court-authorized wiretaps over the last month conspiring to sell or trade the vacant Senate seat for personal benefits for himself and his wife, Patti.
"I want to make money," the affidavit quotes him as saying in one conversation.

It was only a matter of time. Now if they can only find something on King Richard (Daley)...he's the most crooked, but the best at covering his tracks.

I don't get how he keeps getting like 85 percent of the popular vote every time. When I was living in Chicago, I'd gotten to the point where I just voted for whoever was running against him.

"Beginning no later than November 2008 to the present, in Cook County, in the Northern District of Illinois, defendants ROD R. BLAGOJEVICH and JOHN HARRIS, being agents of the State of Illinois, a State government which during a one-year period, beginning January 1, 2008 and continuing to the present, received federal benefits in excess of $10,000, corruptly solicited and demanded a thing of value, namely, the firing of certain Chicago Tribune editorial members responsible for widely-circulated editorials critical of ROD R. BLAGOJEVICH, intending to be influenced and rewarded in connection with business and transactions of the State of Illinois involving a thing of value of $5,000 or more, namely, the provision of millions of dollars in financial assistance by the State of Illinois, including through the Illinois Finance Authority, an agency of the State of Illinois, to the Tribune Company involving the Wrigley Field baseball stadium; in violation of Title 18, United States Code, Sections 666(a)(1)(B) and 2."

mufucka demanded the trib (who owns the cubs) fire writers and editors responsible for running columns critical of him. in exchange he was gonna give the cubs millions of dollars from the state.
Ok, I guess they are not currently in prison, only that they have served time.

The "Trib" filed bankruptcy I believe.... did Zell offload the Cubbies first or are they part of the Chapter 11?
They are not part of the Chapter 11. The Cubs are technically a different entity. I don't really understand any of that, but they are not part of the bankruptcy.

The Illinois political machine is among the most corrupt outside of D.C. Always has been, on every level from lowest to highest. Obamanation was and is a part of that (another reason I didn't vote for him).

seriously. we need to clean house around here, and mayor daley is at the top of my list of people who need to be out of office.
i'm starting to agree. for years, i looked the other way on important issues like affordable housing and mass transit failures because daley has been able to bully through legislation that i support. but now, more and more, it seems like he's only concerned with his legacy and what he can do now. i see very little thought toward the future.
from what i can tell, daley's vision for chicago includes: a downtown financial district/entertainment district/college town/disney world; neighborhoods full of overpriced; new construction condos that increasingly are full of wealthy (mostly) white people, small entertainment districts scattered throughout; a privatized infrastructure system; social services minimized; etc.
essentially, he's moving us toward a boring, homogenous, overly-planned city that has none of the charms and benefits of urban living. but, hey, we're totally the greenest city in america! (even though i don't have curbside recycling and i'm still riding buses that probably get 4 miles/gallon.) we're not quite there yet, so there's still time to reverse some of this. let's resurrect harold washington!
