Went to the Rufus concert last night.
He was so great and always gives such a great show. He wore this sexy double-breast suit number with no undershirt and lots of glittery bling. through the concert he slowly unbuttoned the jacket revealing that mr. W has been hitting the gym over the summer... no more chubby Rufus of '04. He had a great set mostly from his want cds but a couple older songs, a couple new ones as well as a tribute to Chelsea Hotel (where he lived with Lance Loud, among others, in the 80's) and a sample from his mom's new family christmas album (The MacGarigles and Wainwrights will perform "The MacGarigle Family Christmas at Carnegie Hall in Dec.).
I was disappointed that he did that song from Shrek instead of "One Man Guy" as an encore (esp. because it was Joel's first Rufus concert). Also that he didn't dip into some of his foreign lang. works that haven't been recorded widely, but it was still a great show.
His opening act was Regina Spektor. I'd never heard her before but she was quirky and had funny clever songs. Not sure I'd buy an album but will check out future live performances...
