Can you guess the top 3?
I don't even want to guess how many hours of my youth went into some of these games.
I regret nothing. :)
I also regret nothing. Man, there are some great games on that list. My brother & I payed the hell out of all those Final Fantasy games from the first one on. Dragon Warrior was great too. Super Mario, River City Ransom, Battletoads, the list goes on & on.
Oh yeah, I know Slam can still give you the Contra code.

Yeah, I remember getting Dragon Warrior for free when I got my parent's to sign me up for Nintendo Power... it was actually good too.
Most Difficult Game Level: that friggin' Battletoads high-speed race level (over lava?) that took like an hour to reach it, and then if you died 3 times you'd have to start all over... I think Roy eventually mastered it after we stayed up until 4am trying one night.
Missing: Double Dragon, Ninja Gaiden

I think that's the Zelda game where you ride a horse all over and start off as a kid... was pretty fun, the graphics might feel a few years outdated now though.
You still planning a River City Ransom sequel? :)

I love the Final Fantasy Games. I played them completely.
Tetris ranked number 3.
Am I the only person that thinks this is the most boring game in the world. WHOOO fit the shapes together! Am I a toddler again or what? :hammer:

I dont like tetris cause I suck at it . .
Final Fantasy eh? Did you play 7?
That was the best single player RPG I've ever played.

I played 7 twice, 8, 9, and Tactics and some of the older ones (though not all the way through). My parents were freaks when I was younger. They refused to get me a nintendo.
Alot of people dogged on 8. I thought it was better than 9.
7 and Tactics are my fave.

I am PLEASED that Civ II made the top five.
I don't know how many hours of my life I wasted on that game when I should have studying, sleeping, eating...etc.
But it did impart to me some understanding of world politics: If you make strong enough trade partners and have a big enough army, nobody will want to challenge you when you're trying to take over the entire world. If you're fighting several unpopular wars, just raise your luxuries rate and the clamor of rich people partying will drown out the angry protests of the poor.
I think schools should make kids play this game in Social Studies/History class.
that's a respectable list. civ II and starcraft both in the top 10. i think i pretty much earned a minor in starcraft in college. and civ.... i'm afraid of what civ 4 is going to be like. from the hints i've heard, i may just lost any semblance of a social life i once had.
i keep seeing 'god of war' in these lists. for a new game, it's pretty damn popular. anyone played it?
A few other thoughts : Mike Tyson's Punch-Out was fantastic. I never did beat Mike, although Poof did.
Mario Kart should possibly be #1 in my opinion.
Also, Larry, the only thing harder than beating that damn lava level in Battletoads was beating it in two player mode. :banghead:

I'm glad to see Calstlevania : SOTN made it in the countdown... In my opinion, the last great 2d side scrolling action/adventure game.
Alone in the Dark! Hell yeah! I got this game shortly after I got my first computer. Great game for the time, and the story and overall feel of the game was really well done.

a glaring ommision i see from this particular list of games is RC Pro-AM. I know I was addicted to that game for ages, as were a majority of my friends. It was fun the first time I played it, and it still is now.
Hardest game: how bout Fester's Quest...very very difficult game that I never beat even tho I put hours and hours and hours of playtime into it. it was a super NES game I believe and had to do with Uncle Fester from the Addams Family fighting alien life on the planet.
Lamest game of all time: A Boy and His Blob. Lame and then some
Poof you know as well as I do that A Boy & His Blob was possibly the most well thought-out, intriguing, challenging and mentally stimulating game OF ALL TIME!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Fester's Quest is a close second in the above named category.
RC Pro Am is a great game. I have a functioning NES System in the closet with a number of games.
What about Double Dribble, Arch Rivals, World Cup Soccer, Super Off Road, Mega Man or NES Open? These games may not have been as fancy as today's games, but they really captured my imagination as a kid. Besides you don't need all the fancy graphics to have a great game, it's the premise that counts. Also, play control means a lot. The more options you have, the more crap you have to learn.

I agree... I think many people gave up at that point. My brother did. I, however, loved the 2player option if the game and after many months of practice, I was able to complete the first 3 stages playing 2 player by myself.. using a standard hand held controller and also the NES Advantage operated by my feet. Ultimately, I beat the game by myself but I dont think my bro every rose to the challenge.

Hmmm, didn't see Tekken on that list. Saw virtual fighter 4 and soul caliber but no Tekken. The list is flawed, very very flawed.
