Looks like it's finally happening... I bet we all feel "safer" now, right?

WASHINGTON — The Transportation Security Administration has promised not to store or transmit nude images of airline passengers made by whole-body scanners, but when it asked manufacturers to submit bids for such machines, it required that the scanners have exactly those capabilities, according to agency documents obtained in a lawsuit.
...
The T.S.A. initially said the machines would be used only for secondary screening — that is, when screeners had a special reason to believe that a passenger required closer scrutiny — but the government now plans to have 450 of them by the end of September and use them as a first-line tool.

Ridiculous!

I don't think this will make anything safer. If the US is not requiring additional screening OUTSIDE the US, its just a bogus PR move to make most Americans feel better.

Somebody should sue the shit out them for violating personal rights. I'd like to hear more about how we are not granting VISA's to just anyone. How about some articles about the Immigration offices hiring more individuals to screen visa applications. How about letting american people know what is required, what is the screening process? Is it being reevaluated?

No visa, no entrance to the US, no flights to try to bomb.

Until you have to remove said piercing to make it through the new ultra sensitive metal detector!

You think taking your shoes off is inconvenient!

That's either her night stick stuck up at a 45 degree angle or that is one very very happy customer.

Nice 70's bush, btw.

that's all fine and good, but what if it's your kid? the UK government overturned a planned exemption for those under 18.

This is from a forward I got emailed to me.... PERFECT! Well, perfect until you have to wait for security to clean out the scanning machine for the next victim.

"Here is a great idea.......

From an engineer (ex-NASA project director) on Airport Security:

Here's a solution to all the controversy over full-body
scanners at the airports. Have a booth that you can step into
that will not X-ray you, but will detonate any explosive device
you may have on you.

It would be a win-win for everyone, and there would be none of this
crap about racial profiling and this method would eliminate a long
and expensive trial. Justice would be quick and swift.

Case Closed! "

Now if we can only find a way to harness the energy from the explosions we can potentially help with our electricity demands!

Wow, that is a good idea. Almost surprised this hasn't come up before!

Is there such a technology to do that?

Only problem I see is smuggled weapons that don't involve explosive (knives, sharp sticks, etc) and explosives that are mixed together on the plan (debatable whether such a thing could exist).
