i am so incredibly happy about this. why should the federal government subsidize banks so that they can make the profits, and yet pass the losses back to the government?

I would think you'd be for this? This is expanding gov't.

As I understand it, it takes private lenders out of the equation. My only problem, is that it will make it harder for Students to get additional student loans because there are less suppliers of student loans.

The only beauty (as a lender) of a student loan, is that the only way you can elminate the debt is by death. Bankruptcy doesn't work.

So, you can have a person on the hook for a student loan for life.
