So, on the news when they're talking about the new "bird flu" they sometimes picture a drug called Tamiflu made by Roche - which if you look into it doesn't even fight the avian flu (apparently just shortens the time you have it).

Well, the patent and intellectual property rights for Tamiflu is held by a little company called Gilead Sciences, Inc., which gets a cut of the sales.

And guess who was chairman of the board until 2000..... none other than Mr. Donald Rumsfield, Secretary of Defense. And guess who also is still on the board of directors and owns a huge stock share percentage. Yup, our boy Donny.

Pretty interesting that the US recently ordered 20 million doses at $100/dose - makes for a nice little $2 billion sale don't you think?

LH's story does not surprise me in the least. I used to be surprised by this type of thing, but corruption & sweet deals are all part of the gov't these days.

I'll be surprised when I hear that one of these Washington fat-cats aren't lining their pockets or helping their friends into a position of power.

(Fuckin' Gov't)

Lots of smart people that follow virii and their evolution are saying, "Umm, oh shit."

It seems like the press has been crying wolf for so long that we cant really take any threats seriously.

i'm sure it's a valid threat, but what are we supposed to do? what's the difference between taking it seriously and not?

it's one thing to constantly warn people about dangers that they can help prevent, like HIV, or drinking and driving, but what's the average amercian supposed to do to prepare for the bird flu? draw up our wills?

No slam, like always you're just supposed to obey. Get scared and obey. Maybe penalize a powerless minority.
