So I came home from work friday and parked my truck in the garage (which is about 100 yards from my house). Moments later I realized that I had forgotten something, so I made the long trek back down to the garage. When I arrived at the garage I noticed that there were a couple fire trucks coming down the street sirens ablaze. Literally seconds later, the house directly behind mine EXPLODED!!!!! Immediately after, the entire 3 storey house burst into flames that must have reached 200 feet high. It was one of the coolest things I have ever seen. Within minutes the population of the shitty town in which I live TRIPLED in size. At one point I counted 59 fire, police and ambulance automobiles. Moments later the Sheriff's Department came and tried to get me to leave, but since I was on my truck at my house and a safe distance away they had to let me stay. Within a few minutes there were 30 people (over 10% of the population of the town) sitting in our driveway watching the show. For the first couple of hours, every 15 minutes or so, there would be another explosion and the flames could be seen from a long way away. This crazy news lady came with her news van and lackeys in tow, and parked in our driveway (nearly running a couple of people over). Now I have an incredible hatred for the media, so I politely told the media lady (see American Gods) that they needed to move their van off of our property and no member of the media was permitted to be on our property. This was a huge inconvenience for them because, with the exception of our house (which was being used as a sort of headquarters), the police had blocked off a section of the town several blocks long to keep people away. A couple of my neighbors, my brother in law, and I spent 5 hours sitting in our driveway watching the show. After a while many of the firefighters came over too. We all sat there and drank beer and watched the house sizzle to the ground. It was a tremendous amount of fun.
I tried to take several pictures, but capturing fire at night from a distance of several hundred feet doesn't work too well.
Oh, cause of fire? Multiple Meth labs!
