Sorry Nerds, but I'm sure there's some sports fans on this board. I justed wanted to open a thread so us sports people could chat amongst ourselves & try to keep it contained to just this thread for all things sports.
Anyway, those nerds will never look under this heading, so we can bad-mouth Chicago teams (Bears, Cubs, Bulls HAHA).
So, Pre-season Superbowl picks anyone?
Amen Brother!!!!!!
Still to early to tell, but I am leaning toward NY Jets vs. Minnesota Vikings. Can't ruin my streak of never coming close!
I love Chris Carpenter!
Dusty Baker is an idiot. Most overrated coach in any sport of all time.
Choke on that Chi-Town.

You are now my new mortal enemy JVO.
Oh, whoops, I didn't know anybody from Chicago was on this board. (Hehe) :o
Actually, I can root for the White Sox, since they are in the AL.
And, yes, from what I read, Carpenter owned the boys from down here. Good Work! I guess I root for the Marlins when they aren't playing the Cards, but you all know how much I care about baseball.
They're gonna play hockey. Yaaahh!! I'm not a huge hockey fan, but it filled a small sports niche in my life.

preseason Super Bowl picks....instead of picking KC like I want to, I'm going with New England since they always seem to win....versus man the NFC sucks...how bout Minnesota.
is it just me or is the AFC the far superior league?
a quick note to all the chicago sports fans....god the Cubs suck! Go Cards! jab #1 taken on the chin.

I also love Chris Carpenter. He is on my fantasy baseball team and he owns EVERYBODY he faces. I smell a Cy Young award...
I am hoping for a Cardinals-Whitesox World Series this year. If that happens, I want to come to Chicago a few days before tickets go on sale and camp out to get them. So I am inviting myself to stay with slam and LH when that happens.
Anybody interested in traveling to Chicago to see a World Series game?
I was thinking that it would be fun to drag Kurt and Becker and matty to a game in St. Louis. I will cry when they tear down Busch Stadium (good childhood memories).
AJ: I would check in on a sports forum from time to time, but mainly to talk about baseball.
Sorry Hans, I just call them like I see them. What part of my statement agitated you so?
Dusty Baker? Come on, you know he is an idiot. He over uses his pitching staff, lets his 4 year son be a bat boy during the playoffs, and still has no idea how to use pinch hitters in the National League. Almost every Cubs/Giants game that I have seen him Manage, he was clearly out thought by the opposing skipper.
I also am ok with the White Sox. Anything would be better than the Yankees or Red Sox. Plus the Cards would have a much better chance against their neighbors to the North than either of the AL East Monoliths (although I am not assuming that the Cards are a lock for the WS).
Poof...Be a man pick somebody other than the defending champs!!!! You are right though the NFC is week compared to the AFC. I think any AFC West or East team (except the Fish) would win any NFC Division with the possible exception of the NFC East.
007- The Marlins are a great team. They are young and fun with lotza spunk and personality, plus their Manager is 142 years old. You gotta love that. They are my second (albeit a distant second) favorite team in baseball. Too bad we paddled their ass last night. Tonight is the rubber game, and we have the always unreliable Matt Morris on the hill. So anything can happen.
Andi - Can't believe I didn't know you are a Cards fan. Next year let's go to a game and check out the new stadium.

Fuck yeah, JVO!! Let's rock the new Busch Stadium.
The Cards were a lock for the World Series until Hee-Sop Choi destroyed Rolen's shoulder. I hope that doesn't turn out to be one of those career-dampening injuries, 'cause I like Rolen a lot.
The loss of Reggie Sanders and Larry Walker hurts pretty badly, too. There is one more injured major player, but I can't think of who it is right now...Oh yeah, Molina!
The Cards have a fucking awesome farm system, though. Seabol and Luna have been doing a pretty good job at third, and that new Rodriguez guy is on a tear. He stills make minor-league-type fielding decisions, though. I bet with a few more weeks, he'll be where he needs to be.
Also, Eckstein, the hardest-working shortstop in baseball, rules.
AndiKay - My God I Love You! Injuries are going to be a real bitch. I doubt that Rolen or Walker are going to be 100% for the rest of the season, and Sanders broke his leg which seems like something that will take a real long time to heal and Reggie's no kid anymore. Yadier will be fine. Catchers like the pain. As long as our pitching holds on we should be ok for the playoffs.
LH - Sports Forum! Sports Forum! Sports Forum!
Also if possible how 'bout a politics forum? I think we would pack that baby up.
Plus I need a way to beat up on Slam long distance.

So, JVO, how about joining us at Busch Stadium sometime this year? I think September would be nice. I hope Kurt and Becker want to go, and that they will root for the Cardinals, because they will entertain us and everyone in a 20-foot radius with their antics.
matty, I am forcing you to go too.

the conventional wisdom's hilarious. the monoliths' pitching is a joke this year. neither of those teams are better than the sox.
(cards have always been my second favorite team though. my grandpa liked st louis and my dad the chisox--perfect pedigree to hate the cubs yo.)

Hey. Are you saying that we're loud or somethin....... Just wait til Float Trip '06......
Lets all go watch a StL game! Go Cards. Rodriguez is my boy! Rolen is the next J.D. Drew(He was hurt at the end of last year too) Kind of reminds me of the two guys who came with me on the float trip(LVP's).

How the hell do you quantify that?
And good luck with the Series with that rotation.

It's not quantifiable; I'm just sayin' I like him.
CaDi: Tell me when you guys can go to a game, and I'll try to arrange tickets for us.
Well, I guess it's time to put my Pre-Season Super Bowl picks out there :
Ravens vs. Falcons
Also, what happened to the Sports Forum, Larryhead???

Chalk me up for cards tickets.
Rotation should be fine: Carpenter, Molder, Morris. That is the one part I am not worried about. Good call about Rolen, he is the next Drew. Hopefully he will be healthy enough to play 3rd for the the playoffs.
Oh, it's you JVO.
Nevermind.
I have to agree about the rotation. Hotfoot seems to question it, but I think it is considerably stronger than last year. Besides, our ace Carpenter didn't even play in the playoffs. His arm will make all the difference come playoff time.

anyone organizing a cardinal game field trip count me in.
cards fans: i love carp. he just glares out from under his hat like a gunfighter. he's to busy
chewing his bubble gum to even look at the batters. he just mows 'em down.
the cardinal rotation is built to win in the playoffs. 3 aces. suppan is good too.
marquis will come out of the pen. only houston and florida have as much talent
in their starters.
the loss of rolen is not a factor. i always thought he was over rated, as jvo can
attest. nunez is batting .300 and playing great defense for a fraction of the $$$.
sanders and walker will be fine come playoff time. that should kickstart our
offense.
redbird fans should take the new radio deal as a commitment to win the world
series. the club is doing everything it can to make $$$ so that we can keep
the talent rolling in. if we dont win the series this year, the redbirds will go and
get more pitching. we will win one with pujols! at least one. i cant wait.
cubs fans: bartman bartman bartman bartman
you should all defect and become white sox fans.
if i ever come to chicago i'm gonna piss on wrigley field.

i saw the hawaiians turn 3 double plays in a six inning game.
i might have seen my team turn three double plays in high school.
