I personally have settled on the Martini as my drink of choice. It gets you really drunk, really fast. Anyway, what are some other favorite drinks out there? Please include a recipe of unorthodox drinks so I can try them out.

There was a drink in Fayetteville called an Adios Motherfucker. It was basically a Long Island, but instead of soda or OJ you substitute Blue Caracao.

Bye bye!

It was great! It was like $6, but one was all you needed. Then you were totally fucked for hours. It was especially nice when followed by some raspberry liquor shots, which were then vomited up for everyone's viewing pleasure.

When I was a kid, my best friend had an Aunt that used to drink this thing she called "Panda Juice". She would always sneak us sips whenever she was around. Later I found out it was 7 and 7's. That will always be my favorite. Boring but good! Guess I am a meat and potatoes type drinker.

If I'm just drinking mixed drinks at the bar, I keep it to basically to 7&7's and whiskey & cokes. Though I have to agree with 007, a nice dirty martini is a great starter drink.. you can sip it and it gets you nicely twisted. Every now and then a Bloody Mary can be quite tasty, it's also a great drink if you have a hangover (clears it right up). And if I'm at a wedding, it's Tom Collins... always. I don't know why, but I've made that my wedding drink. :D

It depends on the situation, and how broke I am at the time.

On the river, I like Corona with lime.

For karaoke, it has to be sake, the cheap, heated kind that you do as shots. A LOT of sake.

At a dinner party or other low-key gathering, I like Pinot Grigio in the summer and Marques de Caceres when it's cooler.

At a show, I usually stick to beer. Bellhaven, Sierra Nevada, and Bass are favorites (I like my beer hoppy).

We don't have Stella Artois in Columbia, but I enjoyed a lot of it in Chicago.

I like Cosmopolitans when I have a lot of money to spend, but quality varies widely depending on where you get them.
Teller's in Columbia has GREAT Cosmos.

If I'm somewhere that has cheap well drinks, I stick to vodka and tonic with lime.

As you can see, I've put a lot of thought into my drinking! :p

i know this isn't a drink persay....but i thought it was a funny little anecdote about what people drink ======>

*Drinking Guide **
*
Before you order a drink in public, you should read this!
Seven New York City bartenders were asked if they could nail a woman's personality based on what she drinks. Though interviewed separately, they concurred on almost all counts. The results as it pertains to women:
_Drink: Beer
_ Personality: Causal, low-maintenance; down to earth.
Your Approach: Challenge her to a game of pool.
_Drink: Blender Drinks
_ Personality: Flaky, whiny, annoying; a pain in the ass. Your Approach: Avoid her, unless you want to be her cabana boy.
_ Drink: Mixed Drinks
_ Personality: Older, more refined, high maintenance, has very picky taste; knows EXACTLY what she wants.
Your Approach: You won't have to approach her. If she's interested, she'll send YOU a drink!
_Drink: Wine (does not include White Zinfandel)
_ Personality: Conservative and classy; sophisticated yet giggles.
Your Approach: Tell her you love to travel and spend quiet evenings with friends.
_Drink: White Zinfandel _
Personality: Easy; thinks she is classy and sophisticated; actually, she has NO clue.
Your Approach: Make her feel smarter than she is...this should be an easy target.
_Drink: Shots
_ Personality: Likes to hang with frat-boy pals and looking to get totally drunk... and naked.
Your Approach: Easiest hit in the joint. You have been blessed.Nothing to do but wait, however, be careful not to make her mad!
_Drink: Tequila !
_ No explanations required - everyone just KNOWS what happens there.

THEN, there is the MALE addendum. The deal with guys is, as always, very simple and clear cut:

_Domestic Beer:_ He's poor and wants to get laid.
_ Imported Beer:_ He likes good beer and wants to get laid.
_Wine: _He is hoping that the wine will give him a sophisticated image to help him get laid.
_Whiskey:_ He doesn't give a damn about anything but getting laid.
_Tequila: _He is thinking he has a chance with the toothless waitress.
_ White Zinfandel:_ He's gay!

Jamaican ecstacy. Mmmm.

1 1/2 oz. Rum
2 1/2 oz Cranberry Juice
3 1/2 oz Orange Juice

We have a great rum here in South Florida for cheap. Flor de Cana. Its quality. I think its better than Captain Morgans.

Sierra's the best beer you can get everywhere.

If you like hoppy beers you should get yer hands on some Dogfish Head 60 Minute IPA (especially out of a keg, which I hate to say because it sounds beer snobbish and is typically not true but in this case is) from DE, Bell's Two-Hearted from MI, or Victory Hop Devil from PA. Obviously, there're are a ton of hoppy American brews out there, but those are three of my favorite.

BTW, if you want to have your ass kicked by hops, find the Dogfish Head 120 Minute IPA. Effin' huge beer.

I'm not a big cocktail drinker (except for Bloody Marys) but I do suggest whiskey/cranberry and half beer (preferably a lager or pilsner)/half tomato juice. Delicious.

Thanks for the suggestions. MMmmmmmmmmmmm...beer.

I once had Green Chili beer and tomato juice from Flat Branch (a local brewery in Columbia), or Frat Ranch, as we like to call it. The mix was pretty good.

Green chili beer?

Is that a brand or something... what does it taste like?

it tastes sort of like green chili. chili is the new hops.

andikay

It's not really a brand; there is a microbrewery in Columbia, brews all its beer on-site in small batches, etc. Green Chili is one of their varieties and it's usually available every day unless they run out. The alcohol content is a little stronger than regular bottled beer. I only need 3-4 Flat Branch pints to be just ridiculously fucked-up.

It tastes sort of like a pale ale, but spicy.

I can only drink one green chili beer because more than that gives me heartburn, but they taste so good.

I know I initially started this thread talking up martinis (which I still enjoy), but I am currently in a
Vodka & Cranberry Juice phase.

Delicious & gets you canned.

As fall begins to approach I feel called back to one of my first loves: gin.

Last year I came across a bottle of Geniver Gin which apparently is like making gin in a similar way to beer. it's an alternative to 'dry' gin. anywho- the disappointing thing is this was the last bottle on a very high dusty shelf and the queer little liquor store has not reordered it. bitches. who says you can get anything you want in nyc? also, i'd kill a transient for a decent bottle of pisco, for gods sake!

break out the g'n't & gin gimlets!

Diamond Vision,

I bet somewhere in nyc has it.
Recently I thought the same thing about Miami and the lack of variety. But the other day Scott and I found this FANTASTIC liquor store.
It has such a great selection of everything. Its huge.
It has WOODCHUCK. HMMMMMMmm woodchuck.

South Florida is more into their rum and such. I couldn't find a good hard cider for a long time.

BANDERA, Texas (Dec. 5) - A jury on Thursday handed a life prison sentence to a Texas man who shot and killed a longtime friend he accused of drinking the last beer in his refrigerator.

Jurors deliberated for less than two hours before passing the sentence on Steven Brasher, 42, for the murder of Willie Lawson, 39, on Nov. 5 last year.

''There was only two beers left, so I took one, and I told Willie not to take my last beer,'' Brasher said in a taped statement that was played during the trial.

Testimony showed Brasher shot Lawson in the head with a pistol after the two began arguing over the missing beer. Brasher maintained the shooting was an accident.

hmm... such a fine line! i'd say if Steve said, "I'm going to kill you if you drink the last beer!" and he was still convicted, that would be unjust. Willie got what was coming to him.

on a side note-
poof- try a shot of tequila with that guinness! mmm...

Soul Queen-

There are a few really hot liquor stores around but the trick has been finding one with decent imported labels. i've found pisco a couple times but it was this really shitty label. there was a botega in Spfd, MO that specialized in fancy queer european liquors and i got spoiled. Always on the lookout, though... I'm sure I'll eventually find what I'm looking for.
