In case you were wondering what the hell this thread is about.... there is a new Harry Potter book out, and I guess some crucial main character dies at the end and it's like this big shocking surprise.

Oh My GOD that is funny.
I need to print that out and post it on the wall of the comic book shop, just to see how many little kids (and grown men) I can bring to tears.
Sometimes I'm not nice. :hammer:

I happen to be a Harry Potter Freak (go figure).
But lucky for you guys, I'm such a big freak I've already read the book.
You RUINED NOTHING! They are good books. My favorite is the Goblet of Fire #4.
I rank killing off Dumbledor up there with when Gandolf falls in THE TWO TOWERS. Its too bad I have to wait 2 years for the next book. Guess I will have to find something else to wow me. And speculate on how things will end.
yeah, i avoided this thread the last few days so fuckers like larryhead wouldn't ruin the surprise.
honestly, if i had seen someone wearing that shirt before i'd finished the book, i probably would have curbed their sorry ass.
good book, just finished it today. damn having to wait for the last one!

I believe you guys when you say they are good books. I've been meaning to read them, but haven't gotten around to it yet.
I still want to make the assholes that come into the comic shop cry, though. :pokefun:

too little too late-
after:
Lord of the Rings,
Cronicles of Narnia,
Gormenghast,
the Oz 40,
Dahl's children adventures,
the Star Wars trilogy,
Robinson's Mars and & Gold Coast series',
Ursula K. LeGuin's universe,
Goosebumps,
Encyclopedia Brown
& the Hardy Boys
I find it hard to believe that Mr. Potter has adventures and sentiments that are original enough for me to commit to another 5,000 pages of similar stuff...

I have to disagree, Diamond. I think the Potter books are worth it. There is some good new stuff out there, but unfortunately it all gets bastardized by movies and people are too sick of its exposure to take it seriously. Another good example is the "Series of Unfortunate Events." They're truly entertaining and original books for very young children, very dark and creative, and then suddenly there's a movie starring Jim Carrey.

i just finished the half blood prince and i loved the shit out of it. duh!
i predicted that dumbledore would die. but i falsly believed the half blood prince was voldemort.
crazy theory alert: dumbledore faked his death.
exhibit a. dumbledore foreshadows this by offering to do the same for malfoy and mrs. malfoy.
b. snape is skilled in occlumency so he can keep his thoughts from voldemort. i still believe snape is loyal to the order of the phoenix. also snape discusses the importance of acting in a conversation to malfoy.
c. dumbledore's body disappears in a puff of smoke.
d. would the greatest wizard in the world go out like that? disarmed by a 16 year old and killed by his trusted colleague.
that shirt is hillarious!

I had this discussion at work.
If the death of Dumbledore has been faked. Would it be too much like Return of the King? I had similar reactions when Dumbledore died as to when Gandalf fell to the Balrog. If it was faked, will I think the book has devalued itself by becoming a copy of Tolkien?
Snape? He's always been an evil fucker. But really, if Harry can't take him down in the ending battle of Half Blood Prince? What is he going to do against HE who must not be named? Seems he needs some serious spell training. Who will he train with? Is there anyone cool that stands out?
At the end of the book he also said something about not coming back to Hogwarts. Thats my favorite part of the books. It seems that if some of the book doesn't take place at the school, I don't know how interesting it will be.
Any ideas of who R.A.B. is?
I think that maybe Malfoy will turn to the good side in the end. It seems Harry has more evil tendencies than Malfoy.
I didn't know who the half blood prince was. I didn't suspect that it was Snape.
My favorite book in the series is the Goblet of Fire.
This book I think is incomplete without the last book. I think that they blend together nicely.
i totally thought the half-blood prince was voldemort, and i was almost disappointed with how easy it was to figure out the big mystery this time. and, as always, i was totally wrong.
i'm pretty sure dumbledore is really dead. but i think that, when he was pleading with snape 'please', it was a plea for snape to kill him, not save him. i don't think dumbledore was in any way wrong with trusting snape completely. snape might be evil, but he's no death-eater. i think he killed dumbledore because dumbledore was already dying anyways. and snape didn't want malfoy to have to do it. dumbledore knew he was going, and that snape killing him was the only way for snape to maintain his cover. i think snape is perhaps my favorite character in the whole series. i'm pretty certain that he'll save the day in the last book, which makes the fact that harry hates him so much so delicious.
and RAB? Regulus A. Black, Sirius' brother? he was a death eater supposedly, and then turned away from voldemort, so i'd imagine he had a good reason to hate him. anyways, i think it's odd that we've heard regulus mentioned so many times with so few other details given.
can't wait for the last book. think they'll go back to hogwarts?
