I came into work this morning & found 3 different faxes begging for my signature and/or money to help the Christian Family Coalition ban gay marriage in Florida. Their main arguments are thus (and I quote) :

1) Homosexual adoption will be automatically legalized. - generations of orphaned children will be raised in unnatural environments - deprived of both a mother & a father!

2) Homosexual indoctrination will occur in our schools - schools will teach your children that two men "marrying" each other is the same as one man & one woman, marrying each other - in some cases as early as kindergarten! (This is already occurring in California & other states.)

3) Homosexual "marriage" will be required in your church! - your church will have to abandon Scripture & "marry" two men or lose their tax exempt status or even worse yet - BE CLOSED DOWN! Furthermore pastors will be BANNED from preaching on the sin of homosexuality or risk jail time! (This is already happening in Europe & Canada.)

Why is there so much hatred & intolerance in this country? What ever happened to love thy neighbor?

"Orphaned children will be raised in unnatural environments " - Isn't being raised in an orphanage about as "unnatural" as it gets? Isn't having two parents who care for you better than none at all?

And God help us if we should teach our children any sort of tolerance (as early as kindergarten).

These damned crazy Christian Coalitions drive me nuts with all of their hate-mongering.

What do you all out there think and what can we do to stop these bastards?
Please lay it on me with your screeds.

You know how I feel about the Christians, Coalition or not.

Organized religion is a waste of time. These people are just fighting the inevitable uprising of us homosexuals because they know where they're headed when we take over--the food processor.

That's right. I'm going to eat those bitches. Right after we elect a post-menopausal lesbian as president, and all the straight people who were good to us get to go on the breeding farms. Well, the one with good genetics, anyway. (Sorry, Slammy.)

I'm also a big fan of putting like seven Christian Coalition members in a Thunderdome-esque arena, and they can't leave until they kill each other. There can be only one! The winner has the honor of being rodgered by a gay rugby team (highly coveted), right before we toss him over the fence of the nearest drag queen fat camp. Those girls are hungry!

Do not fear the future, Christians! It is your destiny.....

here are some interesting quotes:

"You say you're supposed to be nice to the Episcopalians and the Presbyterians and the Methodists and this, that, and the other thing. Nonsense. I don't have to be nice to the spirit of the Antichrist. I can love the people who hold false opinions but I don't have to be nice to them."--Pat Robertson, The 700 Club, January 14, 1991

"Just like what Nazi Germany did to the Jews, so liberal America is now doing to the evangelical Christians. It's no different. It is the same thing. It is happening all over again. It is the Democratic Congress, the liberal-based media and the homosexuals who want to destroy the Christians. Wholesale abuse and discrimination and the worst bigotry directed toward any group in America today. More terrible than anything suffered by any minority in history."--Pat Robertson, 1993 interview with Molly Ivins

(are you kidding me? you've got to be fucking kidding me...)

"The feminist agenda is not about equal rights for women. It is about a socialist, anti-family political movement that encourages women to leave their husbands, kill their children, practice witchcraft, destroy capitalism, and become lesbians." -- Pat Robertson, fundraising letter, 1992

COOL!!!

"I don't know that atheists should be considered citizens, nor should they be considered patriots. This is one nation under God."-- George Bush

"How can there be peace when drunkards, drug dealers, communists, atheists, New Age worshipers of Satan, secular humanists, oppressive dictators, greedy money changers, revolutionary assassins, adulterers, and homosexuals are on top?"--Pat Robertson, The New World Order, p.227

(Sounds like a regular Friday night to me....)

"I want you to just let a wave of intolerance wash over you. I want you to let a wave of hatred wash over you. Yes, hate is good...Our goal is a Christian nation. We have a Biblical duty, we are called by God, to conquer this country. We don't want equal time. We don't want pluralism."--Randall Terry, Founder of Operation Rescue, The News-Sentinel, Fort Wayne, Indiana, 8-16-93

(My gosh--is that Randall Terry, or Senator Palpatine?)

"Many of those people involved with Adolph Hitler were Satanists, many of them were homosexuals--the two things seem to go together."--Pat Robertson, "The 700 Club," 1/21/93

"I want to be invisible. I do guerrilla warfare. I paint my face and travel at night. You don't know it's over until you're in a body bag." --Ralph Reed, Norfolk Virginian-Pilot, 11/9/91

whoa.

There's a lot more interesting shit on this site: http://www.geocities.com/CapitolHill/7027/patrobertson.html

South Florida is alot more religous than I though before we moved.

Mostly the Latinos are Catholic (Boy I can deal with Catholics any day).
Within my first month here I was asked if I was Christian 3 times.

They always mean Christian in the EVIL spread your hate around way. But then I got a job at the University and I don't here about it anymore. People keep their religion mostly to themselves.

I get sick of the propoganda. Why hasn't someone taken care of the asshole Pat Robertson. :deadhors:

We need more peaceful, love your brother/sister mentality.

Pat Robertson, what a tool.

Remember when he and Jerry Falwell tried to blame 9-11 on gays and feminists? Wasn't that non-judgmental and Christian-like?

From the 700 Club on 9-13-01:

JERRY FALWELL: ...and, I know that I'll hear from them for this. But, throwing God out successfully with the help of the federal court system, throwing God out of the public square, out of the schools. The abortionists have got to bear some burden for this because God will not be mocked. And when we destroy 40 million little innocent babies, we make God mad. I really believe that the pagans, and the abortionists, and the feminists, and the gays and the lesbians who are actively trying to make that an alternative lifestyle, the ACLU, People For the American Way -- all of them who have tried to secularize America -- I point the finger in their face and say "you helped this happen."

PAT ROBERTSON: Well, I totally concur...

i wish christians would pay more attention to what they believe christ said, as opposed to old testament lunacy. from all i can see, jesus was a pretty stand-up guy that would probably be truly horrified at what has become of his teachings.

most religious people are quietly pious and don't go out of their ways to inflict their views on everyone they meet. however, as with any significantly large group (religions, political parties, countries), a few loud asshats can make the whole crowd look bad.

what really burns me is the intermingling of politics and religion. our moron population just can't even understand the hypocrisy when they look in horror at islamic nations that force their women to be covered head-to-toe and then forget to question why they can't buy beer on sundays. people. are. stupid. our dear president even came out the other day backing the teaching of intelligent design. oh yeah, that bush, he's a real devout guy. i'm sure jesus had to secretly imprison suspected rebels every now and again to keep things running smoothly back in his day.

it just sucks. our country is slipping very, very quickly now. they tried to pass a flag-burning amendment again the other day. flag-burning! *amendment* what if they do a gay marriage amendment? yeah, that's right, our constitution, banning slavery, ensuring free speech, and keeping those damn ungodly fags from burning the old stars and stripes at their wedding parties.

I also read about the flag burning amendment and just shook my head. We are definately governed by fools.

The most depressing part is that hardly anybody sees it. I read about the Intelligent design thing too.

The paper is depressing. Nothing but child abductions, terrorism. the government's idiocy, and the beautiful lives of celebrities.

We had an article in the Miami Herald recently Security vs. Profiling about how all Muslim Middle Easters and Asians should go on list. Fucked up. Written by an idiot, of course. There were some sensible editorials about the subject though. Mainly pointing out the obvious such as World War II Japenes Internment camps, and how terrorist are in all races. Thank god a few people who are sensible.

It just seems there are such few of them out there.

society is a fickle thing....appeal to their inner need to belong and they will listen to anyone and anything. step out of line with the standard that our governing body spreads and you are suddenly a leftist freak with nothing significant to say about anything. when will our country that puts freedom of speech first truly do just that. put free speech first. we are suppressed into a sense of moral adequacy that is justified by someone looking over our shoulders saying it is good or bad. i thought moral decisions were somewhat person oriented. what happened to the true leaders for such causes...are we all followers?? i only bring this up to incite a sense of belonging as we all do to a group of friends that hold fairly similar viewpoints on these types of issues. now if we could only get the other groups in this society to pay attention to us....we could be and are a very powerful group of men and women. let us be heard! (i think i've lived next to DC for long enuf to get me going politically...haha....)

The answer to all of these problems is for some democrat somewhere in the US to grow a set of balls. No democrat will come out and say "I am for gay marriage because it is more important to me to protect the rights of our citizens than to take rights away". (only judges who are obviously not elected) or "I am in favor of seperation of church and state because it is one of the main tenents of American Federalism" or "I am against a flag burning amendment because the 1st amendment is the most important part of what it is to be an American" The reason noone will do this is because a majority of those who actually vote in elections are opposed to gay marriage and flag burning and for prayer in schools. The only dems you hear say such things are fringe candidates who have no chance of making any real change. The only two dems who have any type of balls are Hiliary Clinton and Susan Pelosi (ironically two people who actually don't have balls). Americans like people with guts. That is why we love President Shithead so much. Name any issue and you know exactly where GW stands. For right or wrong, he is not afraid to go against convention and tackle the tough issues. No politician has wanted to touch social security for 50 years and GW is royally fucking it up with both barrels, but as least he as the fortitude and confidence to tackle the tough issue. Think about John Kerry, when asked about gay marriage in one of the debates his response was that he respected the rights of homosexuals, but also believe that marriage is a religious institution. What the fuck does that mean? The reason why Americans are against gay marriage is because the only reputiable people who will comment publically on the issue are Repubs who are against it. If there were credible dems who would make the arguement in favor maybe people's opinions would slowly change. Dems are all about whinning and sniveling about what is wrong with Repubs instead of actually taking stands on any of the issues. I think that with Captain Yaaaahooooo leading the Democratic Party that this trend will begin to change. Already Dems are becoming much more vocal on unpopular issues. Although it is still difficult to tell what Democrats are for. For instance what nationally know dem has come out in favor of gay marriage? flag burning rights? anti school prayer? a better way of changing social security? Democrats need to stop bitching about republicans and start taking the initative in controversial issues. Until they do so, they will remain the minority party of the silent majority.

Seperation of Church and State is my single most important issue. If we start forcing public school kids to pray in class revolution can't be far away.

I disagree with the Democrat with Balls theory. With America like it is, a democrat can't say "I'm for Gay Marriage" or "Burn the Flag". The media would have an absolute hey day with them. It would edit out the part about our constitutional rights and just leave the "edited" hate America rhetoric. Which somehow the media twists all Democrats into.

The Howard Dean election is one example. Take one primal scream.. Election done.

Its unfortunate that in the midwest there are ALOT of one issue voters out there, who only give a shit on ONE issue. Mostly what an AMERICAN is, Abortion, Guns.

Take one sentence out of context and fuck your election. IT'S OVER.

The masses of America are easily manipulated. They want to hear certain things. If those certain things are said than, they will elect someone based on it. It doesn't matter to alot of Americans if what was promised is ever done. Its all on how the media portrays the politician.

yer right, there are a lot of single issue voters. and some of them are locked into the republican machine. but the democrats have their own single issue voters as well, on abortion, the environment, education, etc. the problem with the democrats is that they've let the republicans (and their talk radio and fox news compatriots) turn 'liberal' into a bad word. and the dems have cowed to this. they've even stopped calling themselves liberal.

screw that. ralph nader wouldn't have got any votes at all if the dems had put someone up there that could preach the virtues of big government and helping those less fortunate. but no, they keep skirting as close to the middle as possible, and the voters can tell that they're simply fishing for votes without really making a stand.

i dunno what's worse; the villification of the term 'liberal', or the total corruption of the term 'conservative'.

I completely agree with Slam (and you know how that pains me). Democrats have completely let Repubs bully them around. And while there is an ever increasing amount of conservative outlets, I think it is preposterous to say that there is a Conservative slant in the media. Rupert Murdock (sp ?) and Ted Turner (who married Hanoi Jane for Cryin out loud) own nearly every media outlet in the country and both of them are huge contributers to the Dem party. Now ClearChannel has given Conservatives an edge on the radio, but with the exception of Fox, the TV/Cable airwaves are owned by the Dems. CNN is consistantly one of the most liberal news outlets around. Networks have always bent to the left (see Dan Rather) and there is no sign that is going to change. Most weekly news mags are dem slanted. 95% of all television shows, stand up comedians, talk show hosts, actors, actresses, producers, directors, disc jockeys (except country) are at least left leaning. This is to say nothing of the Washington Post and the New York Times, both of which are the source of all stories and both of which have been liberal since the day they first went to press. Anytime you watch a tv show or movie or read a book chances are that it is the brain child of a dem (Repubs are too busy getting rich). When is the last time you saw a sitcom where people went to church? (Amen with Sherman Helmsley???) When has a tv show questioned the morality of sex before marriage, or condemed homosexuality, or been openly against alcohol? If there was a tv show that was openly anti black or gay it would not last 2 weeks. No I will stay with my original statement that it is all about balls. Repubs have them Dems don't. Slick Willy was the last Dem to have balls and he was a two term President. He actively campaigned on socialized health care (a hugely unpopular stand, so unpopular that he failed miserably, but gained the respect of the citizens), appeared on MTV and Arsenio, and was not afraid to screw around on the side. That is what a person needs to do to get elected...let people know who they actually are. I think all of us can imagine what it would be like to sit down and have a beer with Bush or Clinton or Reagan, but how 'bout Gore or Kerry? If we look at a list of candidates who are life long political suck ups who would say or do anything to get elected, we have a long streak of losing...Kerry, Gore, Dole, Dukakis, et al. If you try to please all of the people all of the time there is no chance you are going to win a national election. If you are bold you will gain the respect of those who disagree with you and more importantly you will motivate your base. In order to win the Presidency who must offend those who do not agree with you. That is how we judge stregnth (which is a sad commentary). Name one Democratic candidate who has a chance of winning the Presidency who motivates you? If you can name one, than that is the person who should receive the nomination.
