iPOD Video- Techies help!

Ok, cool! I got the new iPOD with video from Joel yesterday, YAY!

Here's the deal, greedy capitolists think that i should have to buy videos and movies from iTUNES even tho i already have hundreds of dvds around my house. There is an option to convert movies from my harddrive to be compatible with iPOD, so here's the real question:

How do i turn my DVDs into computer movie data?

well, i've never done it, so i'd start with a google query of 'dvd rip ipod' or something. doesn't ipod play mp4 files? you could always search p2p programs for stuff already in mp4 format.

from my experience in ripping dvds, it's rarely worth the hassle. the ripping part usually doesn't take too long, but the compression/encoding can take a bit of time, depending on how fast your computer is.

how's the video look on it? those things look pretty sweet to me!

seems pretty easy if you work from a mac. windows based systems are more challenging.
I'm used to finding round about ways of doing things. but this one is tricky... i'm having trouble finding freeware tools to accomplish the task at hand.

i did put some pictures on it. they look great.
would love to put a vid on it too before i go home tomorrow and show it off...
