i think they did some study recently of the lifespan of various media. seems like stone and paper will last you the longest.
cd-r is horrible. gonna be many sad people here in a few years when they start realizing that their cd/dvd backups no longer read.

So does the same thing happens with DVD backups? If so, those people who pillaged Netflix and burned hundreds of DVDs are in store for a nasty surprise soon. :)
What if you only use the media seldomly, are you still fucked? I have some burned CD's from around 97, and I think they still play OK.
yeah, it doesn't matter how much you use them... they'll still go to shit. if you're somewhat serious about archiving, tape backup last much, much longer.
i believe dvds are susceptible to the same problems as cd-r.
