this seems really cool:
http://www.pandora.com/
you can generate your own web radio stations based on similar artists you like.

You guys should check this out.. I recently revisited the site and fucking love it :)
Plug in your favorite band, and it creates a custom radio station for you based on the band you plugged in. Would be good for parties and stuff too.

I really liked it too, but I have problems with their feed sometimes...it gets kind of choppy...or even turns off...but I did get some good music ideas from them.
i know paul used the site quite a bit, too.
anyone want to compare/contrast it with last.fm?

well, since i still can't get the radio station to work on last.fm, i think pandora is better (even though i haven't been on it yet)

I use last.fm and I love it... pandora seems to be the same thing.
paul was pissed that pandora would always play 80's crap-pop for him. it seemed to think he'd like that.
he didn't.

hey so I signed up for a pandora account and am seem to be getting the same issue that laina was getting...sometimes the radio just turns off and the site goes to a totally blank page, like I lose the feed or something.
It happens a LOT, like every few songs. Anybody know anything about how to possibly fix it? I'm on my work PC, but I've listened to internet radio before with no issues.
Yeah, I tried Pandora. It kept playing music for me that I didn't like, so I kept hitting the "don't like" button for most songs. Eventually, I guess I didn't like so many things that I whittled it down to the same dozen bad pop songs, plus a few folksy things with lyrics about Jesus. No matter how many times I said "don't like" for these songs, they just kept coming back.
It was at that point that I gave up.

hmmm...are you sure you didn't accidentally select my channel? :p
I tried it at home and the issues went away with the streaming music...musta been something goofy with my work connection. I like the interface a lot so far but the channel creation really leaves something to be desired. It has you create a channel based on one band and then doesn't really switch it up at all.
I still miss yahoo's radio station (launchcast). I discovered lots of bands from listening to that. Unfortunately they were bought by CBS Radio or something so can no longer stream music.

Whoa, blast from the past thread.. I think Pandora is still pretty popular, so who knows, maybe their servers are still getting jacked for bandwidth clogging.. I actually haven't used the site in a long time, but this thread reminded me to check it out again
